Hi,
I would like to install MSDE by selecting options from the
screen and not by typing commads at command prompt, just
the same way of installing SQL Server 2000.
I would also like to change the Sorting and collation
options under MSDE.
Please Help.
Thanks
Asim

you have then to provide your own custom tool, which will then pass al
gathered info to the setup.exe via standard command line parameters or INI
settings

I think your message did not come completely. I would
appreciate if you can send it once again.
Also please let me know how can I change by what code, the
sort or collation page setting after the MSDE has been
installed. My email is asim@.dataocean.com

my message was complete... LOL
I apologise if it was not clear
you have to implement a vb/vc/.net/delphi pre-installer, which collects all
user's input regarding settings like SAPWD, DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS,
INSTANCENAME, SECURITYMODE, TARGETDIR, DATADIR and COLLATION (for sort
order)...
then you have shell out to setup.exe passing all parameters (or setting them
in the referenced INI file)
as regard COLLATION, you can not change the system collation after the
instance has been installed...

you can create databases with different collations, and you can define
different collation at column level too...
as regard the defaul collation, I think MSDE does not provide the rubuild
utility, so you probably have to uninstall MSDE and reinstall it

you can investigate the collation settings like
SET NOCOUNT ON
SELECT SERVERPROPERTY ( 'Collation' ) AS [Server wide Collation] ,
DATABASEPROPERTYEX ( 'master' , 'Collation' ) AS [Specific Database
Collation] ;
as for the specifi instance and for each database...

MSDE installation for .Text blogging
Hi All
A little help for MSDE please. I have tried and tried but
no luck ;-(
I followed the steps on the Installation page and
installed .Text and MSDE.
To install MSDE i used the instructions
Setup SAPWD=Test123 SecurityMode=SQL
My first question is
In the connection string, whats the username for the MSDE.
I tried looking for a default login but couldn't find one.
If i use my domain login, it doesn't work.
When i load the default page i get
"Sql Server does not exist or access denied"
I know Sql Server Exists and i can use the MSDE Query
tool. If i use NT Auth i can log in. Please advise for the
connection string.
<DbProvider type
= "Dottext.Framework.Data.SqlDataProvider,
Dottext.Framework"
connectionString = "Password=test1234;Persist
Security Info=True;User ID=admin;Initial
Catalog=blogDb;Data Source=localhost" />
Do i need to grant users for access. how do i do that.
I havent used databases in about 10 yers. a little rusty.

for potential causes of access denied, please have a look at
http://support.microsoft.com/default...06&Product=sql
please verify MSDE accepts SQL Server connections too, and that the
credentials you are passing have been granted logins rights...
the "admin" SQL Server user must of course exists in SQL Server logins
collection, and so all other logins, both WindowsNT and SQL Server...
you can do that via oSql.exe, the command prompt management tool provided
with MSDE, more info at
http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;q325003, but for
your convenience, you can have a look at further management tools, both free
