MSDE Replication issue

I am trying merge replication between two instances of MSDE on two
different machines on LAN.
I have setup the snapshot agent . when I try running the agent using
sp_start_job @.job_name='MergeSnapshot'
I get an error message saying job name ('MergeSnapshot') does not exist
I am new to replication and trying this for the first time...
Any help is appreciated.

MSDE Replication in Workgroup Enviromnet

We currently have two machines in a workgroup environment and both are
running WIndows XP Pro SP1 and MSDE Sp3.
The problem we have is with the Merge Replication. The publisher writes
snapshot data to the snapshot folder, but the subscriber is unable to open
this file across the network. We get error 5 access denied.
From the subscriber PC through explorer/notepad we can open the file. The
file name is MSmerge_genhistory.bcp
If we were to put the pc into a domain we have no problem. Replication wor
Replication is probably accessing this file through a admin share
something like \\servername\d$\xxxxx\repldata\ which needs admin access to
the distributor machine.
Try configuring a named share like \\servername\repldata and allow access to
relevant user and set that to be the working directory. You can set the
working directory when configuring publisher
or through sp_adddistpublisher or sp_changedistpublisher.

MSDE on machine with SQL Server

Hello,
A named instance of MSDE will be installed on our clients machines along with our VB.Net during the installation. Will this work fine even if the client already has SQL Server on his/her machine. I mean will the installation of named instance of MSDE wor
k smoothly even if SQL Server already exists. If yes, then does that apply for both SQL Server 7 & 2000. If no, then what should I do.
Thanks
dev
You should have no problems, as long as you are installing a uniquely named
instance. This is true even if SQL Server 7 is already installed on the
system.

MSDE installation problem in Windows XP

Dear All,
We have been facing problems in installing MSDE 2000 in machines having
Windows XP. The installation starts and then after sometime it retraces back.
The error seems to be because of something related to SQLAgentSecurity.
I am attaching the error log details ( the portion which mentions about the
error) below.
Has anyone faced any similar issues? Can anyone help?
Regards,
Ani

you probably do not have File & Printer Sharing Services turned on.
please chek the control panel, Admin Tools - Services and (eventually) set
it to on.

MSDE Installation Error on Win9x

I am installing MSDE on win 9x machines and am having a problem. The installation aborts and the installshield unattend.iss script rolls back the installation. It seems the failure is in the cnfgsvr.exe program (based on the sqlstp.log file).

the command line that I use is:
msdex86 -s -a -f1 "c:\unattend.iss"

The log files sqlstp.log and cnfgsvr.out are included below.

I have seen some postings similar to this, but never a resolution. Any help would be appreciated...

Here are the log files...

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).

SQL Server configuration failed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~end cnfgsvr.out~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I am able to easily reproduce the error with the following steps:
1. Install WIN95b
2. Install IE5.5
3. Install MDAC 2.6SP1
4. Install MSDE
MSDE does not install on a win95 machine that has MDAC installed.
If I install MSDE, then MDAC it is OK.
Any thoughts??
MSDE Installation
I have tried intalling MSDE on 2 machines and on each of
them after the installation i get the small server icon
running in system tray, but the circle is white and says
cannot connect.
Thanks
Hi ezahnle,
Try double-clicking on the icon and then, in the spot for a servername, try
your computer name and then click connect. If you specified an INSTANCE NAME
while installing, you'll need to put:
computername\instancename
instead.
